CranioSacral Therapy & Mental Health
Given all the stress encountered over the past few years, are nervous systems are under attack and need a re-set. Obviously a huge advocate of psychotherapy, I also believe healing can be experienced from a variety of health and wellness approaches, one including CranioSacral Therapy. I asked Dan to share briefly about CranioSacral Therapy and it's benefits for mental health.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST), developed by John E. Upledger, D.O., is a bodywork that regularizes and balances the central nervous system by way of light-touch manipulation of the cranial bones, spine, and sacrum. CST offers multiple benefits, especially those related to neurological functioning and the body’s basic self-corrective and self-healing properties. Chief among these benefits is stress-reduction, a much-needed healing generally, and especially now in the age of COVID.
Though a Certified Rolfer for 36 years, I have also trained in CST and use its techniques liberally in my Rolfing work. In addition, I offer stand-alone CST sessions following the Upledger protocol. Typically, at session’s end, clients rise from the table feeling relaxed, meditative, and more balanced emotionally. Our emotional lives depend on the health of the central nervous system. When that system is balanced and quiet, running more smoothly, our emotional selves respond in kind.
